Kealaikahiki:  Lana’i and Kaho’olawe – “the road to Tahiti”

‘Au’au:  Maui and Lana’i – “to take a bath”

Pailolo:  Maui and Moloka’i – “crazy fisherman”

Kalohi:  Lana’i and Moloka’i – “the slowness”

Ka’iwi:  Moloka’i and Oahu – “the bone”

Ka’ie’iewaho:  Oahu and Kaua’i – “outer ‘ie’ie” (named for the ‘ie’ie vine)

Kaulakahi:  Ni’ihau and Kaua’i – “the single flame/streak of color”
